If so, what adapter / cables / monitor are you using?" With a big external display, a lot may be needed. That means everything the power adapter can supply, plus it freely "borrows" from the battery as needed. Your Mac is designed for maximum performance when on power adapter. Less is needed to run a DisplayPort family or Thunderbolt Display than an HDMI display. My question is not asking for support for what I've tried, the question is asking for examples of anyones setup and how well it works. Because it's irrelevant to my question, but ok: used a Lenovo with hdmi 1.4 and an Acer with 2.0, and the corresponding Apple adapter and cables.
